An estimated 1.1 million people in the United States are living with HIV/AIDS. Approximately 1 in 5 of those people is unaware that they are HIV-positive and are spreading the virus at an alarming rate. If you have ever shared needles for drug injection or had unprotected sex, you may have been exposed to HIV. It can take up to 10 years for a person to experience symptoms of HIV, so the only way to know if you are infected is to get tested.
DCAP offers free testing to anyone age 13 or older. Free walk-in testing is offered every Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the last walk-in taken at 5:30 p.m. Free testing is also offered any weekday by appointment between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Call 303 837-0166 ext. 471 to make an appointment.
Confidential testing is done with the Uni-Gold™. Recombigen® HIV test or OraQuick ADVANCE® Rapid HIV Test. Results are ready within 20 minutes.
There are treatment options for HIV. The earlier an HIV infection is detected, the more treatment options are available.
