PROGRAMS & SERVICES

S-CAP’s focus is on supporting the three major components of our mission: client and family services, prevention programs and education outreach.

Client and Family Services
Client services are provided through our partnership with Southern Colorado AIDS Consortium Agencies. These services include:

  • Case Management and Referral—Trained case managers who specialize in the unique needs of persons infected and affected by HIV conduct comprehensive client intake assessments and develop individualized plans of care and service.
  • Direct Financial Assistance—available, on a limited basis, to HIV positive clients for such needs as:
    • Medical, Dental and Optical Care
    • Mental Health Care and Counseling Services
    • Emergency Financial Assistance for rent, utilities, telephone and transportation
    • Prescription Assistance
  • Food Bank—An on site food bank in the Colorado Springs office supplies approximately 120 HIV positive individuals and heads of household with free groceries and personal care items each month.
  • Insurance Continuation—a limited number of slots are available to qualifying HIV positive individuals to assist with maintaining access to private health care insurance.
  • Home Health Care—provided through a collaborative relationship with the Visiting Nurse Association, services include professional at home nursing care as well as nursing assistant, personal care provider and homemaker services for HIV positive individuals.
  • Hospice Care—provided through a collaborative relationship with Pike Peak Hospice and Palliative Care Center, services include pain management and both inpatient and at home hospice care.
  • Medication Adherence—a Registered Nurse provides intensive one-on-one counseling regarding maintaining optimal adherence to complex HIV drug therapies.
  • Peer Advocacy—HIV positive volunteers undergo training to provide assistance and support to new or continuing clients.
  • Support Groups, Client Education and Social Activities—take place in different venues throughout the community, including such activities as art classes, client potlucks, holiday programs, and treatment updates.
  • Transportation Assistance—is available on a limited basis from S-CAP volunteers; gas vouchers are available to HIV positive individuals for the purposes of getting to medical treatment or social service appointments.
  • Children's Programming - the Journeys and Memories (JAM) Club—school supplies and holiday gifts accompanied by educational and entertaining outings help children impacted by HIV deal with the special issues they may face.
  • Mental and Physical Health Services - Hypnotherapy, pscychotherapy, alternative and complementary health services, including chiropractic care is available to S-CAP clients for free or reduced rates.

Annually, S-CAP provides services and support to more than 480 individuals living with HIV/AIDS in the 25-county region of southern Colorado. Women make up 17 percent of S-CAP’s clients and 1/3 of S-CAP’s clients have been diagnosed with AIDS.
