VOLUNTEER WITH S-CAP!

Volunteer!
The Southern Colorado AIDS Project (S-CAP) relies on volunteer support
to provide services for our community. Volunteers donate their time and
talents to Direct Client Care, HIV Prevention Services, Resource Development,
Operations, and S-MART our community food bank. S-CAP currently receives
more than 15,000 volunteer hours per year. Here is a short list of volunteer
opportunities:

Philosophy of Volunteerism
Our philosophy of volunteerism is best explained by a quote from
My Grandfather's Blessings by Rachel Naomi Ramen, "We do not serve
the weak or the broken. What we serve is the wholeness in each other and
the wholeness in life. The part in you that I serve is the same part that
is strengthened in me
Unlike helping or fixing or rescuing, service
is mutual." S-CAP believes that our role is not to rescue people
but to offer support for everyone in our community to live healthy, productive,
positive lives. Therefore, all of our care and prevention services are
based on mutual respect and participation.
Many volunteers find that they
gain much more than they give when volunteering at S-CAP. While this organization
has grown incredibly over the years, we've maintained a strong sense of
community. This is a place to learn, a place to grow and change and a
place where everyone is accepted.
Who Can Volunteer with
S-CAP
Anyone over 18 is encouraged to apply to become a volunteer. S-CAP volunteers
coordinate and deliver many of the services the agency provides to the
community. We rely on and treat volunteers as unpaid staff members. Therefore,
it is critical for us to take the time to make quality matches between
volunteers and programs to provide sufficient training. We accept the
volunteers that we feel will best assist us in offering excellent services
to our clients and then equip them with the knowledge and skills to do
so.
Helping Ignorance Vanish
(HIV) Class
Most of our volunteers understand how the AIDS virus is transmitted and
aren't concerned about becoming infected from clients. However, for all
volunteers wishing to become involved with S-CAP, we provide an orientation
program, which includes a discussion on virus transmission and the universal
precautions used to prevent accidental infection.

Be
a Part of Our Team
We would like YOU to be a
part of our team.
1.
Fill out the volunteer application (pdf
file or MSWord document)
and mail, fax or drop it off at S-CAP.
2. A member of our Volunteer Resources team will
review your application and check your references. If we feel that
you make a good potential match for the S-CAP Volunteer Program
we will call you to set up an interview. During the interview we'll
discuss what it's like to volunteer with S-CAP; your skills, interests
and availability; and decide if and how we can make a good match
between you and our programs. (Everyone who sends in an application
does receive a follow-up call.)
3. In order to participate in most of our volunteer
positions, you will be required to attend the S-CAP Volunteer Training.
Whenever possible, we try to get you started with events and special
projects before training.

Throughout the history of S-CAP,
volunteers have responded with compassion and dedication to the health
and social challenges created by HIV/AIDS. Because volunteers are not
paid to be in the “fight” against AIDS, the time contributed
is invaluable. S-CAP works because of volunteers. Their dedication is
contagious. No matter how much time a volunteer can contribute, all volunteers
involved with S-CAP are valued team members.
